[140918] Minho's TTBY is no. 2 on Popular Japanese Mangas Adapted to Korean Dramas

Many fans of Korean dramas are often familiar with Japanese manga, or Japanese illustrated comic books. Did you know that some of these mangas have been turned into Korean dramas that many of us love?
Let’s take a look and see how the character illustrations and actors differ, and of course feast your eyes on the beautiful actors!

1. BOYS OVER FLOWERS

Released in 2009, this popular K-drama is based on the manga Hana Yori Dango. The manga was so popular that even Taiwan adapted their own version called Meteor Garden. Although Lee Min Ho doesn’t look like a high school student, I love the way his character shows his authority and knows that he’s filthy rich.
Incase you are not familiar, the drama’s plot is about a poor but feisty girl Geum Jan-di (played by Ku Hye-sun), who is attending an elite school as a student.
Having a strong sense of justice, she helped a schoolmate against the four-boy-gang (F4), led by Gu Jun-Pyo (played by Lee Min-Ho). She then finds herself being attacked by the F4 gang and the other students. The two eventually fall in love and together they faced their strongest adversary – Gu Jun-pyo’s mother.

2. TO THE BEAUTIFUL YOU

The series centers on Goo Jae Hee (played by f(x)’s Sulli),, a Korean girl who lives in the United States. One day, she sees a track and field competition on TV, and becomes attracted to one of the high jump competitors, Kang Tae Joon (SHINee’s Minho). She begins to idolize the young athlete and eventually transfers to Korea to attend the same school that Tae Joon attends after he suffers an accident that could potentially end his career. There is a catch, however: Tae Joon attends an all-boys high school and Jae Hee must disguise herself as a boy to enter.


3. PLAYFUL KISS

Playful Kiss is based on the Japanese shōjo manga, Itazura Na Kiss.
Oh Ha Ni (Jung So Min) is a sweet lively and happy high school student yet she is definitely not the sharpest crayon in the box.
She has a crush on Baek Seung Jo (Kim Hyun Joong), the smartest boy in school despite being chased loyally by Bong Joon Gu herself. When she confesses to Seung Jo through a letter, he brings it back to her, after grading it harshly and commenting that he hates stupid girls.
When Oh Ha Ni’s new house suddenly collapses her father’s friend offers for him and Ha Ni to stay with them. Unknown to Ha Ni, her father’s friend is actually Baek Seung Jo’s dad.
As they continue to live under the same roof and attend Parang University together, Ha Ni continues to show affection for Seung Jo although he seems to be more interested in the equally clever and beautiful Yoon Hae Ra.

 4. ANTIQUE BAKERY

Released in 2008, the movie is based on the manga Antique Bakery. Although it’s not a drama series, I am including it in the list since it’s still a manga adaptation.
As an heir to the family fortune, Jin-Hyuk (Joo Ji-Hoon) has money, the looks, the charm, everything except finding the love of his life. So he sets up a cake shop where women are sure to come. He hires Sun-Woo (Kim Jae-Wook), a talented patissier who had a crush on Jin-Hyuk back in high school. Along with an ex-boxing champion Ki-Bum (Yoo Ah-In) and a clueless bodyguard Soo-Young (Choi Ji-Ho), the four unique and handsome young men stir up the quiet neighborhood at their cake shop, Antique. Although seemingly careless and happy, each of the four men have unforgettable past that they are afraid to face, but their secrets slowly begin to unravel.

5. CANTABILE TOMORROW

To be released this October 13, 2014, the upcoming drama is based on the manga “Nodame Cantabile” by Tomoko Ninomiya.
The drama follows the story of Seol Nae-il (Shim Eun-kyung), a weird but talented pianist student who fell in love with an egoistic but extremely competent musician Cha Yoo-jin (Joo Won).
