8 on-screen romances we wish were real
With the big news that the stars of Hana Yori Dango have been secretly dating for 9 years, now seems like the perfect time to discuss a few other on-screen romances we hope will boil over into real-life love stories.
1. So Ji Sub and Gong Hyo Jin - Master’s Sun
So Ji Sub and Gon Hyo Jin from Master’s Sun are like salty and sweet onscreen, a deliciously perfect pairing. Their chemistry in Master’s Sun launched a thousand shippers (myself included), and the behind-the-scenes clips from the show reveal that chemistry wasn’t all just great acting. Even though Gon Hyo Jin just announced she is seeing Lee Jin Wook, I am still holding out hope for a Big Sun romance.
2. Krystal Jung and Kang Min Hyuk - Heirs
They won DramaFever’s 2013 award for best couple, beating out Kim Tan and Eun Sang among others. Everything about them in Heirs was adorable, and they managed to steal every scene they were in. If they can't be in love in real life, at least have them together again in another drama soon, okay?
3. Choi Min Ho and Choi Seol Ri (Sulli) -To the Beautiful You
I am such a shipper for these two. I’ve even watched YouTube conspiracy videos that try to link them together. Either Choi Min Ho is the best actor ever, or there was some real romance mojo working for them during To the Beautiful You. Fingers crossed for the latter.
4. Lee Hong Ki and Yang Jin Sung - Bride of the Century
Jeremy! Lose the blond hair and you are pretty dreamy. I hope these two are sharing a sweet potato in real life.
5. Park Shin Hye & Yong Hwa - Heartstrings
Park Shin Hye has had plenty of amazing romantic pairings, and I am pretty sure her acting is so good that she could make you believe she was in love with Pororo, but her chemistry with Yong Hwa in both You’re Beautiful and Heartstrings feels so real. Obviously, I can’t be the only one who loves them together since they paired up for two shows. Please, please let this duet one day be real.
6. Kim Hyun Joong & Jung So Min - Playful Kiss
If Kim Hyun Joong can’t love me, he should at least love Jung So Min. She is adorable.
7. George Hu and Annie Chen - Love Around and Love Now
These two starred in back-to-back Taiwanese dramas Love Around and Love Now. And though their characters were different, their chemistry remained crackling. Coincidence? Or a clue that on-screen chemistry could bubble over into real life?
8. Bae Su Ji (Suzy) and Taecyeon - Dream High
I am always rooting for Taecyeon, and he is always rooting for Suzy. Ergo, I root for them together.
Bonus: My Favorite Real-Life Couple that should be in a show together:
Rain and Kim Tae Hee
The internet went crazy when Rain and Kim Tae Hee announced they were dating. In my fantasy, this real-life couple would take that authentic chemistry, pair up with the Hong Sisters, and make a 16 episode romantic comedy titled something like My Enemy, My Oppa or Flower Boy Flower Shop.
So, what other on-screen romances would you like to see turn into something real?
